June 29, 2011: Brayne Trainz: Metro-North is MTA's App of the Week!

App of the Week: Brayne Trainz: Metro-North

You'll be able to stow away your paper Metro-North timetables if you use Brayne Trainz: Metro-North, our App of the Week.

Metro-North Brayne Trainz App Image
Brayne Trainz takes all of the information contained in a Metro-North paper timetable and transforms it into an easy-to-use, single screen interface on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. You can identify your upcoming trip by spinning a picker wheel to select a station pair. This will display the next schedule trip, with information on scheduled departure and arrival times, number of intermediate stops, distance and length of trip all appearing on one screen.

Users can select their home stations and destinations as favorites to get faster access to routine trips. All of the data is stored on your device, so there's no wireless connection required to find a trip, and schedules update automatically when Metro-North issues a new timetable.

For those station pairs that do not have frequent direct service, for example, Dover Plains to Hartsdale, Brayne Trainz: Metro-North offers a Transfers feature. By turning on Transfers in the settings, you are presented with several trips with a transfer at Southeast station.

"As long time veteran riders of the New Haven line we tried a few of the available apps only to realize they weren't much easier to use than the paper schedules," said Wayne R. Vincent, who created the app along with Brett M. Bergquist. "We designed Brayne Trainz: Metro-North with the daily commuter in mind. Our goal was to create the best train schedule app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices"

Brayne Trainz was launched in July 2010 and is available for $2.99. This video demo showcases many of the app's features.
